Lukemisen kokemus on jättänyt minun tunteeseeni inspiroituksen ja syvällisen kertauksen, ja mielestäni se on todistus kirjallisuuden voimasta koskea sydämiämme ja Kuolleet sielut Se herätti soinnun minussa, herätti tunteiden Kuolleet sielut ja uusia näkökulmia. Kirjalle, joka lupasi niin paljon, olin yllättynyt siitä, että se lopulta tuntui pinnalliselta, pintapuoliselta tutkimukselta teemoista, jotka ansaitsivat enemmän syvyyttä ja hienovaraisuutta, pettymys, suomen jäi pitkään luettuani, pettymys, jonka toivon kirjailijan käsittelevän tulevassa työssään. Löysin Megan Clarkin olevan virkistävän monimutkaisen etsivän, toisin kuin ketään muuta, jonka olen lukenut. Hahmot olivat niin hyvin kehitettyjä, niin täysin Kuolleet sielut että tunsin niitä kuin olisivat vanhoja ystäviä, ja silti, ne tunsivat hieman yhdensuuntaisilta, puuttuvat syvyydet, joita olen tullut odottamaan. Yksi hetki nauruin absurdiin kaikessa, ja seuraavaksi käänsin finland tarinan käännösten ennustettavuudesta. On jotakin kiistaton charmia Rotin ja Haasin seikkailuissa, ja suomeksi käänsin sivuja, löysin itseni yhä enemmän sijoittuvan heidän seikkailuihinsa, heidän kummallisiin persoonallisuutensa ja heidän epävaikeen optimisuuksiinsa. Tarina, joka tutki muistia ja identiteettiä, oli sekä vaimentava että ajatuksia herättävä, Kuolleet sielut tarkastelu ihmisen kokemuksesta.
